Municipal IT, without the red tape.

Whether your town has an IT department that needs backup or none at all, you get a whole team of experts at a price built for tight budgets.

Co-managed municipal IT

Your IT director, with a full team behind them.

Most Massachusetts towns run technology with one or two people covering town hall, the DPW garage, the water department, the library, and the senior center. That person knows your systems better than any vendor ever will. What they do not have is depth: night and weekend coverage, a security stack, and someone to hand a project to.

That is what co-managed IT is for. You keep your director and their institutional knowledge, and we add the pieces a one-person department cannot cover alone. Where a town has no internal IT at all, we run the whole thing the same way.

We work inside the constraints that make municipal IT its own discipline: records requests with a statutory clock, retention schedules, procurement rules, and a fiscal year that closes June 30 whether the project is done or not. Support answers in an average of 17 minutes, and a 24/7/365 security operations center watches the accounts overnight, because the email pretending to be the treasurer arrives at 4pm on a Friday. Would your staff catch it? Find out by taking our quick Threat Test.

Co-managed means your IT director keeps the wheel. We supply the depth behind them, on nights, weekends, and the projects that never reach the top of the list.

What we handle for cities and towns.

  • Co-managed with your IT directorYou keep your person and the knowledge that lives in their head. We add after hours coverage, a security operations layer, and a second set of hands for projects that never reach the top of the list.
  • Security coverage that never sleepsMonitoring, patching, endpoint protection, and email security running around the clock, with a real engineer reachable when something happens at 2am. Town staff should not be the intrusion detection system.
  • Public records requests answered fastSearchable, immutable email archiving turns a records request into a search instead of days of manual mailbox exports. The clerk produces a defensible set inside the ten business day response window.
  • Ransomware recovery you can proveBackups for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and your servers, with restores actually tested. Towns are near the top of every ransomware target list, and the difference between an incident and a crisis is whether the restore works.
  • Budgets and procurement that survive reviewFlat-rate pricing that fits a line item or a warrant article, written scope you can put out for quotes, and planning that lands before the fiscal year closes.
  • Every department on one help deskTown hall, DPW, water and sewer, library, senior center, and inspectional services all call one number and get a Massachusetts technician who knows the town.
Built for municipal work

Why municipal IT is different.

A town is not a small company. It is a dozen small organizations sharing one network, one budget cycle, and one set of public obligations.

You need depth, not replacement

Your IT director already knows which switch feeds the senior center and which vendor supports the assessing software. Replacing that person with a call center is a downgrade. We take the load they cannot carry alone: monitoring, patching, security tooling, after hours calls, and project work, while they stay the person the town trusts.

Public obligations shape the technology

A town is accountable in ways a business is not. Public records law puts a clock on requests, the state retention schedule sets what is kept and for how long, and anything the town does can end up in front of a select board. Searchable archiving and documented access are not extras here, they are how the town answers for itself.

Towns are on the target list

Attackers go after municipalities because the data is sensitive, the payments are large, and the defenses are usually thin. A 24/7/365 security operations center staffed by real analysts watches for the stolen login and the file that starts encrypting, and shuts it down that night. Backups are tested, so a bad morning stays a bad morning.

Straight answers

Questions towns ask us.

Are you here to replace our IT director?+

No. Co-managed IT exists because good municipal IT people are worth keeping, and because one person cannot cover a town alone. You decide the split: some towns route all staff calls to us and keep their director on projects and vendor relationships, others keep the help desk in house and use us for security, after hours, and escalation.

Our equipment is old and the capital budget is small. Where do we start?+

With an inventory and an honest ranking. We document what you have, what is out of support, and what would actually stop town business if it failed, then split the list into what can be fixed inside the operating budget, what belongs in the next capital request, and what can safely wait. Towns rarely have a money problem so much as a sequencing problem.

How do you make public records requests less painful?+

By making email searchable and tamper-proof before the request arrives. With immutable archiving in place, the clerk runs a search, reviews, and exports, instead of asking IT to pull mailbox files from several accounts. That is the difference between answering inside the ten business day window and filing for an extension.

Can you work within Chapter 30B procurement?+

Yes. We are used to providing written quotes, scope that other vendors can bid against, and the documentation your procurement officer needs for the file. We will also tell you honestly when something belongs in a capital plan rather than an operating line.

Which departments do you support?+

Every department on the town side: town hall, accounting and assessing, DPW, water and sewer, inspectional services, the library, and senior services, all through one help desk. School districts typically run their own technology under a separate budget, and we are glad to coordinate with them without stepping into their environment.

What does it cost, and how is equipment billed?+

Support is one flat rate with everything included, under our Keep IT Simple™ managed IT plan, so the line item does not move when a bad week happens. Equipment is separate and passed through at our cost with no markup, quoted in writing before anything is ordered. Right sized to the town rather than the largest plan we could sell, which is the idea behind Goldilocks IT.
